Google Places Announces Google+ Local

Google+ LocalThere is a new addition to Google Places, now you can see reviews from people you know via Google+ Local. Discover great places through reviews and photos from people in your Circles. By adding your friends, family and experts to your circles, you’ll see local recommendations from people you trust in Search, Maps and Google+. When you search on Google for a place to go, the opinions you value are easy to find. Important tips to remember:
  • Google+ Local is an effort by Google to integrate social with your local listings.
  • It’s also an effort to get businesses into Google+ and become more transparent with reviews, pictures, and check-ins by Google properties whether mobile, maps, or search.
  • You can write reviews and upload pictures as a business entity.
  • For now, Google+ Business Pages and Google+ Local are separate Plus pages/listings.
  • Decide with Zagat: Make smart decisions with Zagat’s summaries of user reviews and its expressive scoring system that helps you make a decision based on Food, Service, Decor and Price.
  • Review your favorite places: Love the food but hate the service? Love the chicken but hate the pasta? Google+ Local makes it easy to share your opinions and photos as expressively as you can in real life.

Listen to Wild Web Women Podcast: Public Speaking Success Steps with Lisa Braithwaite

Lisa Braithwaite, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills coach, was on the Wild Web Women Show to discuss her top Public Speaking Success tips with Lorrie Thomas and the Wild Web Women.

Listen to the show to hear Lorrie and Lisa share ways to overcome your public speaking fears and methods to reduce your presentation anxiety!

Lisa’s Top Public Speaking Tips:

1. Make it about the audience, 2. Rethink the rules, 3. Get them involved, 4. AND Be true to yourself

You can listen to a recording of the show on the WMT podcasts page or on BTR.

Read Lisa’s responses to the Wild Web Women Guest Questionnaire, to find out what Lisa’s #1 piece of WWW advice is and the number one thing she has learned as a web woman.

1. How do you use the web to help other people?
“One of my favorite ways to help people on the Web (besides my blog and other free resources I offer) is to connect them through Twitter and Facebook. Just yesterday I was talking to a Twitter contact who works for a company that provides resources for meeting planners looking for locations. I have three clients who are event planners and they’re all on Twitter, so I did a Twitter introduction so they could all start following and get to know each other. My worlds are officially colliding on Twitter; I’ve got friends and colleagues from all over the world and from different times and places in my life following each other.”

2. What is your #1 piece of “wild web woman” advice you want to give?
“Get out there! There are connections to be made and relationships to be forged, but it’s not going to happen if you don’t embrace social media. Take the time to try it, get help if you’re confused, and find out how it can work for you.”

3. What’s the most valuable thing you have learned as a web woman?
“That I can do it myself! It’s not hard to keep up a website, blog and social networking sites; you just have to make the time. Consider these activities as important to your marketing as any other activities you do. It’s easy to find help when I get into a technology bind, and it’s so satisfying to be in control of my own brand and my marketing.”

4. Besides email, what is the one web tool you cannot live without?
“That would be a toss-up between free stock photo sites and Twitter!”

5. What is your favorite Offline activity?
“Offline activity? What’s that? LOL

I love cooking, eating, reading about food, and shopping for food. Anything related to food is my favorite.”

Public Speaking Success Steps with Lisa Braithwaite

Speaking of Success……Learn from Lisa Braithwaite!

Lisa is a Public Speaking and Presentation Skills coach and is the next guest on the Wild Web Women Show.  Be sure to tune in Thursday, November 18th @ 12pm PST to hear Lisa explain her top Public Speaking Success tips:

1. Make it about the audience

2. Rethink the rules

3. Get them involved

4. AND Be true to yourself

Lisa Braithwaite is based in Santa Barbara, California and started performing at the tender age of three when, confronted by her mother about why there was Comet cleanser all over the bathroom, she responded, “Out, damn’d spot! Out, I say!” She hasn’t cleaned a bathroom since.

Her background also includes playing a groovy Santa in a 1977 elementary school Christmas play and making her mother cry as Emily in the 8th grade production of “Our Town.” She occasionally won high school speech tournaments with her award-winning topic of “Brown Bag Lunches.” More recent achievements include faking her way through an interview for a Chicago Tribune article about faking public speaking.public speaking tips

But what’s most important is Lisa’s philosophy of public speaking: That it’s fun, that it’s an awesome way to express yourself creatively, and that passion and enthusiasm are worth more than a thousand techniques.
Also, that public speaking makes you richer, thinner, and better in bed, but you’ll have to read her blog to find out how!
